Project NOWhere: An Anthology by Chinese Adoptees

THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN PUT ON HOLD TO MAKE ROOM FOR AN UNANTICIPATED PROJECT WITH AN UPCOMING DEADLINE.

I have loved to write for as long as I can remember and, though I didn’t realise it in my earlier decades, my adoption has inspired many of my stories. My stories, poetry, and essays have been my way to work through anger, guilt, and a strange sense of grief that I felt growing up feeling lost, misunderstood, and confused. My adoption continues to fuel many of my projects, including my novel, Finding Ching Ha.

I am creating NOWhere Anthology to provide a place where Chinese adoptees can share writing inspired by their own adoption experiences, and be read by other adoptees who might be looking for  . . .  something that resonates with whatever thoughts and feelings they have about being adopted. Beyond limiting the anthology to Chinese adoptees, the theme of “inspired by adoption experience” leaves room for interpretation, so I’m not sure what submissions will look like, but I’m looking forward to this project.

I’m limiting this anthology to Chinese adoptees, but depending on the number of submissions and interest, another anthology may be called for in the future. For now though, if you are a Chinese adoptee with writing to share, consider sending in your work.

Stay tuned for more details on how this project is set up, guidelines on what NOWhere is accepting, how to format and submit, FAQs, and much more.
